ITINERARY OVERVIEW: 7-Day Tour from Laâyoune – Desert, Ocean & Nomadic Life
This 7-day Morocco tour from Laâyoune blends Atlantic coastal beauty with the raw magic of the Sahara. From dramatic sea cliffs and salt flats to camel rides and desert nights under the stars, each day reveals a new side of Morocco’s southern frontier. You’ll explore fishing villages, rocky plateaus, vast dunes, and ancient caravan routes — all while staying under a comfortable 200 km of travel per day. This tour is ideal for travelers seeking peace, landscapes, and authentic nomadic culture in a less-traveled part of Morocco.
DAY 1: ARRIVAL IN LAÂYOUNE
Arrival in Laâyoune airport. Depending on your arrival time, enjoy a light city tour, visiting Place Mechouar, the Spanish Cathedral, and the Artisanal Market. Overnight in a charming Riad or hotel.
DAY 2: LAÂYOUNE – TAROUMA PLATEAU – FUM EL OUID
After breakfast, we’ll head south toward the Atlantic coast. Along the way, stop at the Tarouma cliffs and panoramic viewpoints. Arrive in the fishing village of Foum El Ouid. Enjoy fresh seafood by the beach. Sunset walk along the coast. Overnight stay in an ecolodge.
DAY 3: FUM EL OUID – SEBKHAT TAH – OUED SAKIA EL HAMRA
Drive inland to the salt flats of Sebkhat Tah, a natural depression with striking white landscapes. Continue toward the seasonal Oued Sakia El Hamra riverbanks to observe desert wildlife and migratory birds. Picnic lunch. Return to Laâyoune for the night.
DAY 4: LAÂYOUNE – LAGOUIRA DESERT CAMP
Today we head southeast into the desert to reach a nomad-style camp in the wild dunes near La Gouira (not to be confused with the closed border town of the same name). We’ll pass camel herders and rocky plateaus. Afternoon camel ride and evening campfire with local nomads. Overnight under the stars.
DAY 5: LA GOURIA – KHAOUI NAAM – TIRIS
After breakfast in camp, we explore the Khaoui Naam Depression, a surreal desert sinkhole where the sky meets the sand. Short hike and photo stops before continuing to Tiris, a rocky outcrop with prehistoric rock carvings. Light trekking and a picnic lunch. Return to camp for a second desert night.
DAY 6: DESERT CAMP – LAÂYOUNE VIA SMARA ROAD
We return to Laâyoune through a different route, visiting a desert village and stopping at old French colonial ruins. Once in the city, enjoy a relaxed afternoon in the souks and visit the Saharan Museum. Farewell dinner in a traditional restaurant. Overnight in Laâyoune.
DAY 7: DEPARTURE FROM LAÂYOUNE
Transfer to the airport for your departure. End of the 7-day Laâyoune tour.
